SWOOSH TOURNAMENT RULES

  1. This tournament is for the kids - let’s always keep that in mind.

  2. HOME AND AWAY The team listed on the LEFT or TOP of bracket is HOME and must wears light color "Home is on Top or Left"

  3. Normal High School rules will apply (FIBA) with a few modifications

  4. "NEW" There will be 2 - 16 minute stop clock halves  

  5. 1 full timeout 45 second in the  first half, 2 45 second timeout half no carry-overs 

  6. 3 minute half-times to keep the games running ON time

  7. 5-minute warm-up between games. so strength prior to warm-ups  

  8. Overtime time is first to 5 points

  9. A player fouls out on his 5th personal foul

  10.  A team shoots Double bonus on the 9th team foul in a halves.

  11. 2 technical fouls result in automatic ejection from the games and the next game as well. NO EXCRETIONS THIS INCLUDES FIGHTS

    1. This includes coaches, players, and fans.

    2. "NEW' UNLESS DIRECTOR WAS THERE HE WILL NOT TURN OVER THIS RULE. so be careful

  12. Bring your own basketballs for warm-ups. Swoosh will not provide basketballs for your teams.

  13. During the game if a team (s) is ahead by 20 or more points STOPS ONLY FOR Four SHOTS AND TIME/OUTS, UNLESS THE TEAM COMES BACK WITH IN 10 POINTS, WE ARE ON TIME.

  14. There will be no overage players because we run by US tournament rules. Please fill free to contact Ron directly if you do not understand if your player is eligible this are for all Swoosh tournaments. 

  15. Rules for age which means if you are 17 on January 1st then you considered 17 for the entire year, however players can only play on one team this entire tournament. PLEASE TO NOT ASK IF THIS RULE CAN BE CHANGED

  16. Please bring both colors to game in case a team does not have extra uniforms (Swoosh will not provide pinnys) for teams with only one color jersey

  17. Seeding from each pool will be determined by win-loss record in pool play.

      1. In case of ties, head-to-head competition determines seeds.

      2. If 3 teams are tied, a point system comes into effect to determine the 1, 2, and 3 seeds of the pool.

      3. All games in a pool are included in determining the point system.

  18. In case the 3 teams are still tied, the least total points allowed in pool play will determine the higher seed.

  19. In case there is still a tie, a coin toss will determine seeding.

  20. In case of disputes, the Tournament Director’s decision is final.” Not one I want to make”

  21. At the end of pool play, check brackets on your phone ”THIS MAY TAKE A COUPLE MINUTES", at your gym, or at Headquarters for seeding as you might play within a few hours of brackets ending. In case of changes

  22. The brackets WILL BE POSTED ON-LINE AT Tourneymachine.com

  23. If will take at least 15 minutes to post scores after game is finished

  24. Please check with ON-LINE to verify any bracket times and locations THERE WILL BE NO PAPER COPIES AT THE GYMS.

  25. You are responsible for knowing where and when your teams plays next AGAIN CHECK ON-LINE at Tourneymachine.com

  1. If you do not arrive at your scheduled bracket game on time, it can potentially be forfeited. This decision is up to the tournament director.

  2. By participating in any "Swoosh Canada Tournament” events, every participant and coach agrees to have and maintain their own personal INSURANCE POLICY, to be in effect at the time of the event.

  3. Any damage to the building will be charged to the team and said players by the Saville Centre, Calgarys so be responsible for your players and yourself

  4. Because we are going to have a number of US TEAMS in our tournament please read age rules so you can get your team in the appropriate age bracket MOST TEAM WILL BE OK JUST REMEMBER WE LET GRADE 12s’ IN THE TOURNAMENT.

31.  2019 Tournament Age/Grade Division Rules:

      1. Ages are based on the grade players are in during the 2018-2019 school year. Age determining date is 9/1/2019.

 

A. 11U

  1. 5th Grade Division: Players in the 5th grade cannot turn 12 before 9/1/2019.  

  2. Players in the 6th grade cannot turn 12 before 9/1/2019.

  3. The will be not zone play allowed in the division

B. 12U

  1. 6th Grade Division: Players in the 6th grade cannot turn 13 before 9/1/2019.

  2. Players in the 7th grade cannot turn 13 before 9/1/2019.

  3. The will be no zone defense allowed in the division

C.  13U

  1. 7th Grade Division: Players in the 7th grade cannot turn 14 before 9/1/2019.

  2. Players in the 8th grade cannot turn 14 before 9/1/2019.

  3. There will be no zone play allowed in this division

 

D. 14U

  1. 8th Grade Division: Players in the 8th grade cannot turn 15 before 9/1/2019.

  2. Players in the 9th grade cannot turn 15 before 9/1/2019.

  3. There will be Zone defense allowed in Gold division only  

E. 15U

  1. 9th Grade Division: Players in the 9th grade cannot turn 16 before 9/1/2019.

2. Players in the 10th grade cannot turn 16 before 9/1/2019.

3. You can play all defense in all divisions

F. 16U

  1. 10th Grade Division: Players in the 10th grade cannot turn 17 before 9/1/2019.

  2. Players in the 11th grade cannot turn 18 before 9/1/2019.

  3. You can play all defense in all divisions

G. 17U boys and girls’ Varsity divisions are actually “open divisions”

  1. ​High School seniors can play in this division. however, players cannot turn 19 before 9/1/2019.

  2. Prep school players are also eligible to play in our tournaments.

  3. The tournament management has the right to exclude any senior from playing.  

 

We not have any College players in the tournament but there will be grades 12s
